PEPPOL
PEPPOL (Pan-European Public Procurement OnLine) can be described as an electronic transport infrastructure allowing governments and companies to connect their IT systems and reliably exchange data and business documents. A common agreement on cross border procurement processes, implemented through open standards, makes this possible.
PEPPOL supports the use of UBL 2.0 documents and CEN/BII profiles. A CEN/BII (Business Interoperability Interfaces Profile) is a specification of how one or more business processes, such as ordering or invoicing, are executed. PEPPOL implements the CEN/BII profiles to define specific business scenarios.
CEN/BII profiles
CEN/BII is a standardization initiative within the CEN (European Committee for Standardisation). Similar to the "profiles" as part of NES-UBL CEN/BII (Business Interoperability Interfaces) profiles are designed to facilitate effective public procurement solutions with focus on cross-border interoperability and closing the gap between systems built on UN/CEFACT and OASIS/UBL 2.0. The CEN/BII profiles can be seen as “agreements” on message contents and business processes. Organisations being compliant to a particular profile can make e-business with each other while the profile descriptions are lowering the need of detailed bilateral agreements between the trading partners. Compliance to a profile is measured e.g. against the sequence of transactions, a ”core” transaction data model and business rules defined or referenced by the profile.
BUSDOX
The PEPPOL transport infrastructure uses a set of technical specifications known as BusDox (Business Document Exchange) to allow organisations to securely and reliably exchange electronic documents.
